THE STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO

OK, so by now you and 10.3 million others have seen the video.  If you are interested in the real story behind the video to quell the misconceptions and theories others have posted on YouTube, well, here it is:  The video was shot at my birthday party at a friends ranch in East Texas in August of 2007.  So that will dispell the notion that we were shooting in a park!  We had brought along the DE50 to try out because I had never shot one before either and curiosity was killing me.

We all took turns shooting the DE50 and decided that we wanted video of us shooting this hog's leg.  My wife, bless her heart, wanted to be in on the fun as well and I let her watch us all shoot it so that the kick wouldn't be a surprise to her.  The unfortunate (or fortunate side depending on how you look at it) side was that we forgot the magazine at home, so we were loading it one round at a time.

If you have never shot a DE50, it DOES most certainly kicks like a mule!  Make no mistake on that.  It is not a pansy firearm.  This thing means business and anyone thinking about shooting one better keep that in mind.

So it gets up to my wife's turn.  Now, she has had, as I indicated in my responses to the video, quite a bit of extensive training with firearms and safety of firearms.  Although she weighs out at 100 lbs wet on a good day, she can hold her own, and I would put her up against the best on accuracy any day of the week!  She has shot many different weapons including the Desert Eagle .40, .45 and the .50AE as well as an AR-15, Saiga .308, Steyr Mountain Sniper .308, and a few 12 guage shotguns.  All with no issues.

I won't go into the details of the video as you can see it when you watch it.  However, the speculation that she doesn't know how to handle a firearm are very incorrect.  No I didn't do it intentionally.  I would never put my wife in harm's way.

Q&A

Has your wife shot the gun again since the incident?

She has shot many other firearms since the video two years ago, but the .50 cal hasn't come back up. She realizes that the Desert Eagle just has way more kick than she feels comfortable with, and therefore sees no real reason to repeat the action. We have toyed with the idea of letting her shoot a 50 BMG rifle. She seems ok with the idea especially after seeing others shoot it with little to no recoil.

Have you been interviewed by any media, made any TV appearances?

We have not really been interviewed, but have had numerous offers by video websites offing us money for the "exclusive" rights to the video which I will not release because too many people are enjoying the video or using it for some interesting purposes. We have recently found out that the United States Army is showing the video to recruits in Boot Camp. We also received a call from a friend in the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Academy that the video was being show there in the firearms safety course for police. Another report said that our video was seen on Lewis Black's Root of all Evil, but I have not confirmed that as of yet. CMT Television, I was told, featured it on Country Fried Videos, but again, I have no solid confirmation on that. We do welcome interviews.

UPDATE:  The video has been seen in Israel by the IDF and by a few websites in Russia.  We were recently contacted by a media group in Tel Aviv but we have not made a decision yet.

Do you or your wife get recognized in public?

In public, we do get recognized sometimes. We were at a shooting range in Houston and someone recognized her as she was shooting her Desert Eagle .45. They were very nice and said they felt like they were in the company of celebrities. I don't see it that way, but hey, whatever floats their boat, right? We have been to many parties and engagements where the topic of that video comes up and people are talking about it in the room and not realizing that we are the ones in the video. I find this particularly funny, especially when we reveal that tidbit of fact.

My final thoughts on the subject is this: I am blown away by how many hits this video has received on YouTube alone. I think as of this interview we have 10,200,000 hits and counting!!! WOW! I can't believe it. And that is just on YouTube. I haven't checked the other sites that have the video. We do read the comments left on YouTube and other websites that we find our video on. Not all of them are nice and I have to refrain from saying what I would like as to not stoop to the level of stupidity that is out there.

Where did you get that shirt?

Austin, Texas.  Go down on to 6th St. where all the college bars are and almost every souvenier shop carries them.  Got it for $10.

What do you think about the rude comments on your pages?

Actually I try not to.  But if you must have an answer...retards are allowed to have an opinion.  Same with the foreigners who like to rip on Americans because we can actually have guns in our country!  My response is usually, are you from the country who's ass we kicked or the country who's ass we saved!
